Spittin' Mad (actually just crickets)

Last Saturday we piled in the ole' Swagger Wagon and headed to Purdue for the day. We met up with our cousins the Richards Family (see their blog on the right hand side.) Purdue was hosting Spring Fest which is home to the Black and Gold game (which got rained out) and Bug Fest. We walked around all afternoon in the pouring rain but had a great time checking out all the cool agricultural displays. You know I love me some farm land! :)

One of the best parts of the whole day was watching Punk 1, Cabana Boy, and cousins Nolan and Matt compete in the "Cricket Spitting Contest." Who came up with this concept is super weird in my opinion. But I have to admit it was pretty funny. But then again I didn't have an antenna or cricket leg stuck in my mouth.
So here are a few pics of the guys in action spitting their crickets in the pouring rain.

And now for the real show...
Matt had been waiting for this day for the past year. He wanted to see if he could beat his distance from last year.
So... he planted his feet.

Took a deep breath to focus.

Got last minute advice from the college kids.

Pulled back while keeping good form...

and let her fly!

Awhh... not as good as last year. But we determined that a lot of factors go into cricket spitting. The rain, the wind speed and direction, the amount of time you let the cricket soak up spit in your mouth... There is a real science to this stuff.
Next year Matt. Next year. :)

I missed Cabana Boy for the most part b/c I was laughing so hard at Matt. I think he is picking a leg off of his tongue in this picture.

Cabana Boy apparently has another job. Setting spitting records! So weird!!!!

And now they are sampling "Meal Worm Stir Fry". Blahh..... so gross!

Poor Liam! He doesn't even know what he is eating! yuck!

Punk 1 milking a cow.

All the cousins holding hissing cockroaches, millipieds (sp?) and a tarantula.

Thanks Richards for a wonderful day!
